A CDD is a quasi-governmental unit created pursuant to chapter 190 of the Florida Statutes. A CDD’s main functions are to plan, finance, construct, operate and maintain community-wide infrastructure and services specifically for the benefit of residents and owners within the physical borders of the District. More than 750 CDDs exist within the State of Florida.
The Reunion West Community Development District, which encompasses approximately 930 acres, is a local unit of special purpose government created pursuant to and governed by the Uniform Community Development District Act of 1980, Chapter 190, Florida Statutes as amended. The District was created on October 3, 2001, by the Board of County Commissioners of Osceola County. The District was established to provide services to the Reunion Resort community in Osceola County, Florida. Both Reunion West and Reunion Resort are adjacent to I-4 on the east and County Road 532 on the south in Osceola County. The Reunion Resort community is split into two sections for CDD purposes. These are the Reunion East and Reunion West CDDs. Even though the community is split into two Districts, certain assets and amenities are accessible and maintained by both Districts in accordance with the Interlocal Agreement between the Districts.
The Reunion CDD’s funded both the original construction and continues to fund ongoing maintenance and management of most of the common infrastructure within Reunion including:

- Certain Retention Ponds
- Conservation Areas
- Bridges and Tunnels
- Street Lighting
- Entry Gatehouses
- Access Control Systems
- Signage and Wayfinding
- Irrigation Infrastructure

- Euston Dog park
- Sewer Infrastructure
- Mailbox Kiosks (see POA info)
- Heritage Equestrian Facility
- Heritage Conference Ctr
- Seven Eagles Pool/Pavilion
- Heritage Crossing Pools (2)
- Carriage Point Pool
- Homestead Pool
- Terraces Pool
